We are seeking an Undergrad Co-op Research Application Software Engineer to join the multi-site Research & Development Informatics (R&DI) organization. The Research Informatics (RI) team supports Research teams globally with innovative IS and Data Science solutions to accelerate and grow Amgen’s pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. Our success in informatics is driven by our commitment to the IS Vision:

- Support the Research Informatics technology portfolio through software and data engineering contributions for research that will aid in uncovering new and deeper insights for the discovery of novel therapeutics
- Organize and manage and transfer large datasets to and from cloud-based storage solutions
- Building and maintaining analysis pipelines to run on AWS cloud technology stacks
- Adhere to standard methodologies for testing and designing reusable code
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s or Combined Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Degree concentration(s): Big Data, Health Informatics, Information Technology, Computer Science/Engineering or related field
Experience with AWS cloud technologies (AWS Batch, S3, Lambda, etc) and/or high-performance distributed computing environments (SGE, Slurm, etc)
Experience with bioinformatics methods and tools
Understanding of agile methodology & DevOps (Jenkins, Docker, JIRA, Github) frameworks
Experience with analytical or bioinformatics pipelining tools such as Nextflow, SnakeMake, etc.
Good learning agility, ability to pick up new technologies used to support early drug discovery data analysis needs
Understanding of code and testing standard methodologies, technologies, and tools (e.g. Jira, github, bitbucket, etc.)
Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business and technology partners
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
