About the positions
The Department of Computer Science at Brock University invites applications for 2 probationary tenure-stream positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2021. These positions are subject to final budgetary approval. Each successful candidate will be expected to engage in a program of research, teach courses, supervise student theses and course work, participate in the affairs of the program, and fulfill service commitments to the program and the university. A successful applicant should demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, including an interest in teaching foundational and core computer science, and applied computing.
Applicants must hold a recently completed Ph.D. (2016 or later) in Computer Science. Applicants close to finishing their Ph.D. may be considered. The specific requirements for the 2 positions are as follows. (1) Data Science: This position must show evidence of successful research in data science. Areas of interest include security, databases, data visualization, and big data. This position will be expected to help support a new BSc in Data Science and Analytics, as well as a new PhD in Intelligent Systems and Data Science. (2) Open to any research area of computer science: This position will show evidence of successful research in topics that diversify the department’s current research strengths. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Note that one of the positions will be expected to assist in development of courses for a new engineering program being planned at Brock.

About the department
Faculty members in the Department pursue research in many areas of computer science, as well as transdisciplinary research. We offer an MSc in Computer Science degree, with thesis and project streams. Planning is at an advanced stage for a Ph.D. degree program offered jointly with the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The Department offers degree programs for four-year BSc honours, major, Co-op honours, and combined honours with various other disciplines. The Department provides a minor in Applied Computing. The department partners with other departments, faculties and institutions to offer cross-disciplinary honours programs in Computing and Business (Faculty of Business), Computing and Solid-State Device Technology (Physics), Computing and Network Communications (Sheridan College), and Game Programming (Interactive Arts and Science and Niagara College).
