Purpose:

The Senior Product Manager – Metadata Solution role contributes to the overall success of the Data Office globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. As part of the Data Architecture and Enablement team within the Data Office, the candidate will identify and prioritize opportunities to leverage Metadata effectively and take a leading role in project-based initiatives to drive innovative Metadata standards and solution adoption throughout the Bank supporting strategic objectives. The role requires strong product management and communication skills to articulate standards, target state solution roadmap and product backlog grooming, elicit business-to-technical requirements for solution delivery, and maintain end-user engagement to drive solution adoption. The role also requires a drive for innovation, flexibility, collaboration, to deliver in a cross-functional team environment.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Act as Product Manager for Enterprise Metadata platform solution implementation
  • Establish the Metadata foundation and surrounding architecture, leveraging tools to capture/disseminate Metadata to benefit the Bank’s overall data strategy
  • Establish Metadata Standards in the Enterprise; driving adoption by partnering with Lines of Business, Analytics functions, and balance standards adherence with Enterprise Governance partnership
  • Design and specify Metadata attributes in accordance to the Standards; evolve the Standards with the growing needs of the Bank
  • Implement target state Enterprise Metadata platform to drive standards adoption and Metadata consumption throughout the Bank
  • Maintain target state Metadata solution (henceforth mentioned as “product”) roadmap and product backlog with inputs from key Data Architecture team members; ensures alignment of new initiatives to the roadmap
  • Lead in the implementation and adoption of target state Metadata solution across the enterprise
  • Take ownership of the requirements gathering from key stakeholders/end users and effectively document the requirements for product feature delivery; conduct and lead requirements gathering workshops
  • Align product roadmap release plan to the priority requirements set forth by the Product Owner, with assistance from assigned project manager and scrum master
  • Represent key stakeholders/end users’ requirements during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by creating test cases, conducting tests execution, and managing the defects through proper project channel
  • Maintain and improve Metadata standards for enterprise adoption
  • Establish and evolve Bank-wide product working group to encourage adoption
  • Establish and evolve end user onboarding and support model
  • Establish and evolve end user documentation; collaborate with fellow Metadata Architects to maintain documentation
  • Establish widely accessible data dictionaries and a central Metadata repository; manage cross-functional taxonomy guided by Data Architecture group’s principles and decisions
  • Perform product administrative duties, guided by documentation maintained within the Metadata Architecture team
  • Deliver a consistent yet scalable Metadata consumption solution to meet the bank’s business goals by collaborating closely with key Data Architecture team members
  • Assist in the research, selection and Proof-of-Concept of emerging Metadata management tools or capabilities
  • Assist in metadata solutions collaboration on data initiatives across the organization
  • Acts as an active ambassador to influence quality Metadata capture, and cultivates ownership of “data about data”
  • Provides consultation to Metadata content providers or users across the enterprise on standards best-practice
  • Work in an Agile mindset to accelerate delivery of Metadata product capabilities

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Strong product management mindset and delivery skills
  • Strong communication skills (i.e., spoken/written/presentation) to engage wide-array of users to elicit requirements and feedback
  • Strong experience in gathering business requirements, then translate to user stories and eventual test cases that are well understood amongst product delivery team
  • Strong experience in agile project methodology and artifacts, on software/application/product development lifecycle in an agile fashion
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, consistent with customer focus and a deep understanding of the requirements and business needs.
  • Sound knowledge in data governance principles and best practices relevant to Metadata management
  • Working experience in planning and delivering content taxonomies and structured Metadata for large content catalogs, and crafting information interactions
  • Working experience with structured Metadata content design, including creation of content structures, schemas, and logical data representation
  • Working experience in data repository/warehouse implementation project lifecycle
  • Understanding of tools for building information taxonomy and Metadata; ability to work with tools engineers to deliver taxonomy and Metadata requirements into effective features such as data catalog, data ingestion flows, process flows, consumption searches, etc.
  • Subject area experience with Financial Industry products and services preferred: e.g. Retail Banking/Lending, Commercial Banking/Lending, Capital Markets, Insurance, Wealth Management. etc.
  • Subject area experience with anti-money laundering compliance, RDARR, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and regulatory compliance will be an asset
  • Technical Competencies
  • Data Management Tools experience: data catalog software (e.g. Collibra, IBM Information Governance Catalog), data modeling or architecture software (e.g. Erwin)
  • SQL skills for querying relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, Sybase)
  • Working experience of relational databases design will be an asset
  • Sound knowledge of REST API, JSON schema/payload mapping
  • Knowledge of big data ecosystems such as Hadoop and related data-oriented components; and experience with NoSQL databases will be an asset
  • Cloud platforms and related data services knowledge (e.g. Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services) will be an asset
  • Visualization Tools experience: software in developing Business Intelligence visualization (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Data Consumption Tools experience: Full-text Search (e.g. Elasticsearch)
  • Productivity/Project collaboration tools experience: Confluence, Jira, Sharepoint

Education / Experience:

  • University degree in relevant STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) or Information Science discipline equivalent
  • 5+ years of working experience in data projects: Requirements, Analysis, Data Mapping, and Solution delivery
  • 2+ years of working experience in data governance projects/programs preferred
  • Product Owner certification (e.g. CSPO, PSPO) will be an asset
  • Collibra University Certified Expert Level 2 (preferred); Expert Level 3 (asset)
  • Collibra Solution Architect (asset)
  • Collibra Workflow Engineer (asset)
  • Collibra Integration Engineer (asset)
  • Collibra Ranger (asset)
