We are looking for a Sr. Manager, Data Engineering & Delivery to join our growing team of Data and BI specialists. Aviva has embarked on a journey to build a next generation cloud data platform to support the growing data needs for business intelligence and analytics point of view.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure successful delivery of solutions to meet business and data requirements by providing direction and leadership to wider project delivery teams and ensure that key landmarks are achieved within the allocated budget, resources and timelines
  • Drive scope definition, functional & non-functional technical design and delivery on data engineering projects
  • Review options and proposals regarding development/enhancements and make recommendations regarding the technical impact including efficiency, feasibility and effort for specific solutions
  • Lead delivery team efforts to implement data solutions defined by the solution designers & architects in accordance with enterprise standard methodologies and guide to resolve technical issues and ensure that quality is ‘built-in’
  • Establish data engineering design, development and delivery standards/best practices and proactively propose improvements
  • Responsible and accountable for ETL code delivery for all data engineering projects
  • Implement standard methodologies for code management, code versioning, code deployment and all aspects related to software engineering
  • Own all project documentation like mapping documents, design, scheduling, SLA documentation during project execution and facilitate knowledge transition sessions as projects get handed over to Data Operations
  • Provide insight and critical thinking to improve data delivery practices and process improvements based on analytics, user feedback and developments within the Enterprise Information Management settings
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, Architecture, QA and business to ensure project delivery is not blocked and progressing per established plans
  • Build strong relationships with internal customers, partners, integration and operation teams to ensure delivery is smooth and customer centric
  • Provide technical direction to drive innovation and business outcomes in an Agile delivery environment
  • Understand the functional aspects of Enterprise Data Hubs, data integrations, data warehouse/marts
  • Collaborate with solution designers, architects and developers to estimate data engineering technical efforts for new change initiatives
  • Collaborate with data modelers to evolve data models based on target state architecture and solutions
  • Perform resource allocations, workload assignments and proactively address performance issues in delivery team members (including understanding training needs)
  • Develop an environment that supports team engagement and high performance in a diverse, distributed and partnered team
  • Coach and empower delivery teams to take accountability for delivery, risk and issue management
  • Work with third party vendors for data projects and staffing needs as required
  • Maintain clear and detailed status reporting on all delivery projects to keep partners advised of critical aspects of project health such as scope, schedule, resources, costs, issues, etc.,

Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering preferred
  • 8+ years leading data engineering teams for data warehouse, data integration & data mart projects
  • 5+ years of demonstrated ability using Informatica product suite (PowerCenter, Metadata manager, MDM, etc.)
  • 4+ years working with data engineering using RDBMS (Oracle, Teradata, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.,)
  • 2+ years of experience with data engineering using DBs (Big data, PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Redshift, Mongo DB, etc.,)
  • 2+ years of experience using Informatica BDM, Scala, Python
  • 2+ years in the Property & Casualty Insurance domain
  • Solid understanding of Business Intelligence and Analytics tools (QlikSense, SAP Business Objects, SAS, DataIku, etc.,)
  • 2+ Years of AWS Experience using different tools like DMS, RDS, EMR, Glue, Snowflake, Sagemaker etc…
  • Solid understanding of the principles of enterprise information management and how technology is best applied to deliver on business requirements
  • Demonstrable experience running data delivery teams including onshore/offshore vendor resources
  • Skilled in presenting effectively across organizational layers
  • Experience leading partners at all levels and ability to influence and make positive changes to the organization
  • Skilled in continuous planning, estimating, forecasting, road-mapping, risk management and contingency planning
  • Strong commitment to high delivery standards, customer care and continuous delivery of improvements & efficiencies
  • Skilled at prioritization setting and continuous delivery of improvements and efficiencies
  • Excellent knowledge/experience in the application of Agile/lean practices and able to identify what works best for the team and when to utilize certain processes
  • Self-starter with experience working in a fast-paced agile delivery environment
  • Ability to use Jira to supervise sprint execution and project delivery
  • High level of flexibility with solid ability to lead others through process, system and transformation change
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to lead by example and create environments for people to innovate and learn
  • Outcome focused with strong decision making and critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo which impacts delivery pace and performance
  • Demonstrable ability to rapidly adjust to new contexts, technologies, trends
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to balance and independently handle workload across multiple concurrent priorities
