What is the opportunity?

The Senior Director, Risk Data, Analytics and Systems will support the strengthening of the enterprise ability to anticipate and manage Operational Risks effectively through the deployment of adequate Risk Systems, Data Management, Risk Analytics & Research.

You will lead the build out of robust fact-based analytic capabilities to support the execution of the Operational Risk management framework. The role requires a focused approach to develop and augment a library of sophisticated models and the requisite infrastructure to enhance data driven decision making across operational risk domains. As Product Owner for the operational risk management system, you will help define and deliver solutions that enable better experiences for users as well as drive value for RBC business.

What will you do?

  • Direct data science initiatives to uncover business value using statistical, machine learning and analytics techniques
  • Oversee the development of statistical predictive models using data science techniques (including linear and logistic regression, neural networks, decision trees, experimental design) testing, implementation, scoring and monitoring
  • Drive business value by presenting and delivering innovative new modeling approaches to complex problems
  • Partner with IT in identifying and implementing tools/software/architecture required to meet the analytics needs of the operational risk team; builds advanced analytics capabilities that enable operational risk to become more predictive and prescriptive vs. descriptive and reactive
  • Responsible for leading the execution and establishment the operational risk management system
  • Manages the end-to-end planning, development, implementation, change management and closing phases of a large and complex technology program related to Operational Risk Management that support RBC’s strategic objectives
  • Responsible for design and implementation of the data infrastructure strategy around the risk data used to create Operational Risk Profile. Design and implementation of controls around the data aggregation layer which is leveraged for ML models, Risk Analytics and Operational Risk Profiling
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and management policies of RBC
  • What do you need to succeed?

    Must-have

  • 8+ years of experience with big data technologies – Hadoop (Pig, Hive), SQL databases and Apache Spark
  • Strong working knowledge of Operational Risk Management concepts and processes. Strong knowledge of design, development, and implementation experience
  • Ph.D. or Masters in Business Administration, Computer Science, Statistics, or related fields
  • Strong process engineering and performance management background including data management and analysis
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in order to effectively source information, build relationships, and provide sufficient influence to achieve success
  • Nice-to-have

  • Working knowledge of industry Integrated Risk Management solutions/packages – Archer
  • Familiarity with RBC’s existing data infrastructure is an asset
  • Strong knowledge and skills of RBC data, analytics methodology, practices and tools
  • Knowledge of Project Management (PMF) process/disciplines
