With over a billion people using the service and more than fifty offices around the globe, a career at Facebook offers countless ways to make an impact in a fast growing organization.Facebook is looking for a Network Operations Engineer Intern to help provide network process improvement and automation support for the Facebook network.You’ll work very closely with our partners in integrating new processes into our production network. We are big on automation here as well, so you will be using and developing internal tools and scripts to automate processes. You will also work on monitoring the incident queue, whether handling tickets yourself or escalating them to the team. Overall you will be providing support across our production network.You must be able to evaluate, deconstruct, document, and drive improvements for key operational processes. Creation of new best practices with a relentless drive for automation will be part of this technical leaders role. Partnering and collaborating with a variety of internal and external teams will be necessary for success. You will have to cultivate these relationships while developing cross functional processes. Being data driven with an ability to use metrics, KPI and SLOs will allow continuous maturity improvements.

Required Skills

  • Participate in troubleshooting network issues
  • Proactively contribute to documentation, automation, and processes as they evolve
  • Use internal tools and scripts to configure, monitor, and repair network events
  • Own small projects supporting internal process engineering efforts

Minimum Qualification

  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a BS or MS degree in Telecommunications or Networking
  • Basic knowledge in routing and switching technologies
  • Proficient in UNIX/Linux and TCP/IP network fundamentals
  • Some understanding of fiber-optic technology including cable types, connector types, optic types, and optical transport technologies
  • In-depth experience with coding in Python and SQL
  • Ability to analyze situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools, and problem solving abilities
  • Demonstrated initiative in developing solutions to identified improvement opportunities
  • Strong communications skills working in a team environment
  • Detail oriented analytical, organization, and time management skills

Preferred Qualification

  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
  • Familiar with routing protocols such as IPv6, STP, VLAN, VRRP, LLDP, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and MPLS
  • Vendor certification such as CCNA/CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, RHCSA or equivalent academic course work or experience
