Closures Technical Centre, a division of Magna International Inc., is focused on the design, development and testing of Mechatronics products for the automotive industry. We are currently looking for an Environmental, Health & Safety Coordinator. This permanent, full-time position is responsibile for the effective implementation of the Health, Safety and Environmental programs including Joint Health & Safety Committee, claims management and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors new and revised legislation and ensures CTC’s compliance to legislated requirements
  • Establishes written safety standards, reviews and updates annually to secure compliance with all related legislative requirements and CTC and Magna policies and maintains the EHS procedures & forms database
  • Coordinates required Health and Safety procedures and is accountable for successful conformance on all periodic Magna Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) audits
  • Advises and assists leaders/employees with the interpretation and administration of company policies and procedures to ensure fair and consistent treatment company-wide
  • Develops and provides support for the ongoing maintenance, continuous improvement auditing and compliance of CTC’s Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Provides meaningful statistics and recommendations to management in a timely manner to ensure continued improvement of workplace health, safety and environmental including maintaining Magna reporting requirements
  • Responsible for WSIB claims management and the return to work program, to ensure employees return to their pre-injury duties in a timely manner
  • Provides guidance and direction for occupational hygiene concerns, hazardous material management, ergonomics and environmental issues
  • Provides administrative support and leadership to the Joint Health and Safety Committee, (e.g. hazard identification and accident prevention) and coordinates follow-up actions on the committee’s recommendations
  • Coordinates the Health and Safety awareness program, including Employee Communication Meeting presentations, Safety Talks and Safety Bulletins
  • Reviews all accident/incident investigations and monthly inspection reports and provides leadership in developing corrective actions, auditing to ensure closure of required actions
  • Liaisons with Testing and Prototype departments to ensure safety compliance on all new and existing equipment
  • Prepares Health, Safety and Environmental training needs analysis, develops presentations and coordinates training to ensure adequate safety awareness at all levels of the organization
  • Develops and coordinates the annual wellness program
  • Coordinates vaccine clinics
  • Coordinates medical exams and hearing tests
  • Develops and maintains Physical Demands Analyses and Risk Assessments
  • Maintains Safety Data Sheet management system
  • Manages CTC’s participation in the WSIB Excellence Program
  • Manages the Contractor Safety Program
  • Updates emergency response documentation (i.e. evacuation checklist, fire plan, etc.) and coordinates annual emergency drills
  • Coordinates and conducts quarterly management inspections and follows up on outstanding items
  • Investigates EHS-related performance issues, including harassment claims, and makes recommendations for remedial/corrective action
  • Maintains the visitor/contractor management system
  • Assists employees with general requests/questions
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all information obtained, written or verbal and maintains a professional service-oriented manner
  • Follows and models safe working practices and promotes safety in the workplace
  • Performs special projects as assigned
  • Follows Magna’s Code of Conduct & Ethics and related compliance policies

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum completion of a post-secondary or diploma in a related field preferably in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Sound Knowledge of all relevant Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental and Employment legislation
  • Self-motivated; ability to work independently, take initiative and willingly accept responsibility
  • Ability to confront issues directly and hold others accountable
  • Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent communications skills: verbal, written
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to work under pressure
