This role comprises of leading a portfolio of digital transformation initiatives through a rigorous Corporate methodology framework to help Aviva Canada build out its direct to customer business and expand its digital footprint.

Aside from being a senior strategic leader within the EPMO team in Information Technology, this role will also have the following:


  • Play a pivotal role in shaping our future technology roadmap for building out a direct to customer business via digital self-serve
  • Orchestrate and facilitate activities involving cross-functional teams in program as needed to complete delivery and business outcomes
  • Manage local and global IT, business and vendor relationships related to program deliverables
  • Gain consensus on aligning business, processes, and technology to achieve the desired outcome
  • Oversee and facilitate execution of change management components related to the program driven from end-to-end impact to the business
  • Remain on top of program financials at every point in time to maintain balanced program budgets
  • Drive program risk, issues, constraints, monitor dependencies, and key decisions to resolution working closely with key stakeholders
  • Manage and lead program related activities, with emphasis on developing appropriate project deliverables; for example and not limited to, program and governance artifacts, risk and control logs, action and decision logs, statements of work, project plans, resource plans, presentations, cost models and forecasts/actuals.
  • Communicate and provide timely program/project status to senior executives, project team, and key internal and external stakeholders
  • Plan for and manage resource allocation for delivery of the program while working closely with various resource managers
  • Contribute to EPMO delivery best practices from a technology standpoint to help build sustainable maturity in delivery practices


  • The Program Manager is accountable to the Business Sponsor and EPMO. They oversee the proper execution of all projects and efforts supporting the program by ensuing risk is monitored at all levels in the program and that relevant escalations be brought to the Sponsor and Program Steercos
  • Working closely with operational sponsor ensure business case is current and that outcomes and benefits are clear throughout the execution of the program and that decision impacts throughout the program are assessed against the business case. Provide recommendations by looking across the areas to spot risks & opportunities
  • Ensures that all relevant projects are compliant with Aviva’s mandatory Change Management Standards and supports them with compliance where they are not. This includes having independent Project HealthChecks performed on an agreed upon cadence.
  • Challenges progress to plan, level of risks and value of investment using facts and data to ensure a successful outcome for customers and employees
  • Ensure resource allocation and prioritization of business and IT resources is in place and managed and work with sponsors to manage prioritization decisions where needed
  • Ensure proper Gating is in place for every stage of the program / projects including formal lessons learned at the end of each gate
  • Ensure all workstreams are operating effectively and are contributing as planned to business case and outcomes. Where blockers surface work with relevant stakeholders to escalate and drive return to green plan
  • Accounts and plans for change management activities across all impacted areas (internal and external) including Go/No Go decisions and transition to business as usual
  • Communicate on various program governance elements to senior executives, project team, management, and key internal and external stakeholders as applicable



Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or Information Systems required or equivalent work experience


20+ years of proven deep technical expertise of which 10+ years leading technical delivery with a proven track record

  • 10 to 15 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified above
  • Hands-on Agile Program Delivery experience
  • Understanding of P&C Insurance applications is desirable but not a must
  • Hands on experience managing digital program deliveries
  • Exceptional financial acumen
  • Mastery of executive-level communication to deliver highest quality presentation and confident with the ability to challenge executive decisions
  • Strong vendor management capabilities
  • Project Management Certification (PMP) is an advantage


  • Solid understanding of Portfolio, Program and Project Frameworks in a risk averse domain
  • Strong impact & influence with executives and able to be strategic and think “big picture” with ability to challenge the status-quo
  • Resourceful and creative troubleshooting skills

  • Experience with portfolio/project management tools
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite
  • Various tools to enable Agile delivery methodology such as Atlassian suite
  • Virtual Working Tools and Practices
