Job Summary

The position of Analyst, Operational Risk Management reports to the Director, Wealth and Asset Management & General Account Operational Risk Management, supporting the WAM & GA Operational Risk Management team across the enterprise by developing, delivering and supporting highly visible reports and dashboards to support Operational Risk Management programs (i.e. Event Capture, Risk and Control Assessments, Key Risk Indicators, etc.).
Also responsible for identifying, evaluating, coordinating and implementing enhancements or ongoing maintenance for the Operational Risk Management System(s) that support the Operational Risk Management programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

50% – Key Risk projects and initiatives

  • Responsible for research and analysis of analytics and reporting requirements, and developing the reporting strategy to support the execution of Operational Risk Management programs and analysis of Operational Risk Profile
  • Understanding of how different data elements interact with various tool data sources
  • Maintain report library and Identify enhancements to existing reports; deliver solution.
  • Automate reporting processes to improve efficiency of organization
  • Responsible to be the primary point of contact in the identification, evaluation, implementation and/or coordination of enhancement, and ongoing maintenance of the Operational Risk Management System, Archer in accordance with the established governance model (including implementation of configuration changes, and coordination with technical support team)
  • Support in the design, development and implementation of the analytics and reporting capability of the Operational Risk Management System
  • Work with Group ORM and Risk Champions to successfully test business requirements for Operational Risk Management system functions

25% – Support ongoing risk framework

  • Cross-Functional Relationships
  • Produce standard weekly/monthly/quarterly management reports. Operational Risk reports produced by this role are delivered to stakeholders across Wealth and Asset Management and General Account and the Enterprise including Board members, Chief Risk Officers, senior and executive management
  • Contribute to the integration of the operational risk reporting framework components into risk reporting methodologies and processes
  • Maintain robust information gathering, managing processes and toolsets related to the monitoring and reporting activities.
  • Drive consistency, demonstrated quality and continuous improvement in the execution of the risk reporting. Provide value-added, clear and concise analysis on results. The production of quality risk reporting and analysis supports proactive management and mitigation of operational risk and increases transparency to existing, emerging and potential operational risks.

25% – Other risk initiatives

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of processes and systems that will deliver and integrate all components of the operational risk management framework.
  • Contribute to and embed into reporting the key risk indicators from the KRI program
  • Play an active role in the ongoing management of the risk and control assessment program
  • Assist with the development, delivery and reporting on the scenario analysis program
  • Provide training for operational risk systems/tools and processes
  • Liaise with the Operational Risk Management functions in other divisions of the company and in group functions to share best practices while ensuring appropriate alignment of the Investment Division’s operational risk framework with corporate policies and risk monitoring processes
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and business partners by establishing a good working rapport and effective buy-in of risk management
  • Manage and maintain an overall production schedule and process for the recurring activities within the department. Support ad-hoc requests as assigned
  • Manage, prioritize and execute diverse activities and projects concurrently. The individual may adjust plans and schedules at short notice, and work to meet those changing conditions and deliver on the Department’s multiple priorities on a timely basis

    Job Requirements:

  • Pursuing University undergraduate degree in Finance or Business
  • Creative problem-solving skills sufficient to develop unique approaches and solutions necessary to resolve complex problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills: ability to convey complex situations and relationships clearly and concisely
  • Ability to independently manage multiple, conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within tight deadlines
  • Proficiency, including best practice controls, with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, SharePoint) and ability to learn new applications quickly
  • Advanced analytics skills including MS Excel functions such as pivot tables, charts, vlookup, conditional formatting, logic statements
  • Proficiency with basic database queries and computer programming(i.e.,SQL, QlikView, VBA) is considered an asset
  • Ability to synthesize complex information from various sources, identifying key points and issues
  • Summarize large volumes of data & communicate in a meaningful way
  • Work creatively and find new ways to address issues, confront barriers and seek out information for the benefit of the business
  • Anticipate, act quickly without acting irrationally and escalate situations of potential risk to appropriate senior management
  • Ability to independently manage multiple, conflicting priorities and deliver a quality result within tight deadlines
